The Institute of Networks and Security (INS) at Johannes Kepler University Linz is an internationally recognized research and teaching center in the fields of IT security and computer networks. The institute’s mission is to enhance the security and connectivity of modern computer systems through excellent basic and applied research, while equipping students to address current and future challenges of digital transformation.

To strengthen our team, we are seeking a dedicated University Assistant (postdoctoral) who actively contributes to research, teaching, and academic self-governance, and who works with us to develop innovative solutions in the areas of networks and IT security.

The position is to be filled as of July 1, 2026. An earlier start is possible with a reduced workload. With regard to the preparation of the winter semester, the position should be filled by September 1, 2026 at the latest.

Job Duties::

  • Conduct independent research (pursuant to the institute’s area of research) and be actively involved in publication projects at the institute, as well as independent publication
  • Actively take part in institute research (as well as in the conception and completion of research projects)
  • Assist in completing research grant applications, as well as independent submission of projects to national and international grant schemes
  • Independent teaching (or: participate in teaching) at university-level classes (tutorials, practical training courses)
  • (Co-)supervise Bachelor’s/Master’s theses
  • Supervise and conduct (written and oral) examinations
  • Support the institute’s general administration activities

Your Qualifications::

  • Must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree in Computer Science (or a corresponding discipline) or equivalent qualification
  • Excellent command of English (level C1 or Austrian Matura) and solid communication skills in German suitable for academic teaching (level B2 or willingness to learn German)
  • General scientific and practical experience in: computer security; computer networks; and development and maintenance of software in high-level programming languages
  • One or more specific focus areas in research (please explicitly specify in your application): wireless security; embedded software security with an applied focus on Linux and Android; applied cryptography, including PQC, anonymous credentials, etc.; formal validation/verification of protocols and implementations; biometric authentication and machine learning for usable security; or OT (operational technology) security
  • Communication and organizational skills and a willingness to be part of a team
  • An excellent publication record or equivalent potential for development
  • Experience in university teaching or an interest in teaching methodology
  • Experience in project work or externally funded projects is an advantage
