The Department of Didactics of Economic Education will be established at JKU in August 2026 and will be continuously developed. It is part of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences and is affiliated with the Institute for Business and Vocational Education.
The department’s main areas of work lie in subject-specific didactic research on curricula, teaching, and the teaching profession, with a focus on general economic education at lower and upper secondary levels (including economic citizenship education, financial literacy, consumer education, entrepreneurship education, and career and work orientation). The research projects establish theoretical and empirical links to educational science, social sciences, and linguistics, and employ both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. Teaching responsibilities are carried out in the teacher education programs “Geography and Economics” and “Home Economics and Nutrition,” as well as in the diploma program “Business Education.”

Job Duties::

  • Conducting research in the field of empirical educational research and subject-specific didactics
  • Willingness to pursue further academic qualification (habilitation) and to refine one’s own research profile
  • Participation in the department’s research and service projects
  • Planning, teaching, and evaluating courses amounting to 2 semester hours per week as a university assistant with a diploma/master’s degree and 4 semester hours per week as a university assistant with a doctorate/Ph.D.
  • Supervising students’ qualification theses
  • Contributing to the administrative tasks of the department

Your Qualifications::

  • The successful candidate must hold a completed diploma/master’s degree , preferably in economics, business education, educational science, or related fields
  • The successful candidate must hold a completed or soon-to-be-completed doctoral/Ph.D. degree in a relevant research area
  • Knowledge of advanced quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Knowledge of the Austrian education system
  • Near-native proficiency in German (level C2) and professional proficiency in English (level C1)
  • Teaching experience at the tertiary level, especially in teacher education
  • Teaching qualification and teaching experience at lower or upper secondary level
  • High level of commitment and resilience, with an independent and systematic working style
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, as well as a confident and professional presence

What We Offer::

  • On the basis of full-time employment (40 hours/week) the minimum salary in accordance with the collective agreement is € 3,776.10 gross per month as a Graduate Teaching Assistant holding a Diploma/Master’s degree and € 5,014.30 gross per month as a University Assistant holding a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree (14 x per year, CA Job Grade: B1)
