The Faculty of Medicine at Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) has successfully established itself in recent years as an innovative center for medical education and research. At the Institute of Medical Systems Biology, a motivated PhD student is being sought for the following diverse and exciting range of responsibilities:

Job Duties::

  • Conduct independent research (pursuant to the institute’s area of research) and be actively involved in publication projects at the institute
  • Independent planning, execution, and analysis of in vitro and in vivo experiments
  • Complete a doctoral dissertation
  • Coordination of the work of a technical assistant
  • Conducting teaching courses

Your Qualifications::

  • The successful candidate must hold a Diplom/Master’s degree in Molecular BioSciences (or a corresponding discipline) or equivalent qualification
  • Very good computer skills (MS Office)
  • Ability to independently conduct research
  • Communication and organizational skills and a willingness to be part of a team
  • Very good command of German and English, both written and spoken (German level C1, English level B2)
  • Experience with cell culture (including organotypic cultures) is an advantage
  • Experience with histology, immunohistochemistry, or immunofluorescence is an advantage
  • Knowledge of cellular and molecular immunology is an advantage
  • Experience in flow cytometry and cell sorting is an advantage
  • Knowledge of the isolation and culture of primary cells from tissue samples is an advantage
  • Training in laboratory animal science and practical experience with laboratory animals are an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of bioinformatics (e.g. omics analyses) is an advantage
  • Experience with bacterial cultures and in vitro infection experiments is an advantage
