The University Department of Neurology is conducting research into how modern technologies and multimodal monitoring methods can help improve care for patients in the neurology intensive care unit. At the intersection of medicine, technology, and signal processing, we are working to better understand the complex (patho)physiology of the brain and its interactions with other organ systems.
The young and growing research group at the TT-Stelle – Transformative Health Care, which focuses on technology in medicine (led by Dr. Jeanette Tas), is seeking a motivated and talented doctoral candidate. The research group focuses on neurophysiology, cerebral autoregulation, multimodal monitoring, and precision medicine, and offers close collaboration with scientists, physicians, and nurses in an interdisciplinary and collegial environment.
This position focuses on the investigation of the (patho)physiology of the brain’s regulatory mechanisms. Key research areas include cerebral autoregulation, the interaction between the brain, cardiovascular system, and lungs, the autonomic nervous system, and electrophysiological phenomena that can be studied using EEG and multimodal neuromonitoring (e.g., spreading depolarizations). In this work, we analyze high-frequency multimodal monitoring data to identify new physiological relationships and understand how individual differences in physiology influence the treatment and outcomes of neurology ICU patients.
The goal is to gain new insights into the physiology of critically ill neurology patients and thereby lay the groundwork for future personalized treatment approaches.
