The Visual Data Science Lab performs research related to visualization, visual analytics, explainable AI, and human-computer interaction. We are currently looking for support in two specific research areas. (1) In an ongoing collaboration with Voestalpine AG, a large Austrian steel manufacturing company, we are looking into the process of transitioning to new visualization and dashboarding solutions in a large company setting. This does not only include the development of specific visualization solutions, but also the scientific study of the socio-technical implications of such a transition. (2) In collaboration with large pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, we are working on multiple visualization solutions related to knowledge graphs, indication expansion, cost estimation, and exploration of chemical data spaces. Here, the focus lies on developing effective solutions for specific domain problems.
Job Duties::
- Conduct scientific research in the field of visual data science (visualization, visual analytics, explainable AI)
- Contribute to collaborative research projects
- Work towards obtaining a PhD
- Publish scientific findings in renowned international journals and at conferences
- Short-term research stays at international collaboration partners (Harvard University, ETH Zürich, University of Utah, etc.)
- Provide support to manage the institute’s general administration activities
Your Qualifications::
- The successful candidate must hold a Diploma/Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (computer science, mathematics, bioinformatics, statistics, or similar) or has equivalent qualifications
- Expertise in one or more of the following fields: data visualization, visual analytics, explainable AI, data mining, statistics, machine learning, and human-computer interaction
- Strong programming skills in web technologies (e.g., HTML5, D3.js, Java Script) and scripting languages (Python and R) are of advantage
- Strong motivation and commitment to research
- Willingness and ability to work in a team
- Strong command of English (level C1), good German skills (level B1), but not mandatory
