For our emerging research group "Transformative Healthcare with AI". we are looking for a motivated and technically skilled Data Engineer to join our interdisciplinary neuroscience research group. You will have the opportunity to shape the technical infrastructure of an active, future-oriented research programme and to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of neuroscientists, clinicians, and computer scientists.

Our research group is part of the Department of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine at JKU Linz, which, in addition to its function as a center for maximum clinical care, focuses on pathophysiological and clinical research across the spectrum of neurological diseases. We are operating at the intersection of clinical neurology, neuroimaging and artificial intelligence and realizing technical solutions for personalized patient care. In our research, we are combining state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms with software engineering best practices to provide tangible outcomes for individual patients. Our mission is to algorithmically embrace inter-individual variability across various neuroscientific data modalities and create personalized model contexts, tailoring medical data analysis to the unique needs of each individual.

Job Duties::

  • Design and development of interfaces to automate data exchange, integrate scientific models, and ensure interoperability with clinical IT systems
  • Implement, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and transforming large volumes of structured and unstructured data
  • Optimise data storage and retrieval mechanisms for performance and scalability
  • Develop an MLOps infrastructure for the deployment, monitoring, and versioning of machine learning models
  • Consult and support research projects from a data engineering perspective: working closely with prediction modellers to identify the data needs for statistical and machine learning approaches, including medical data pre-processing and feature extraction strategies in large datasets
  • Teach and supervise software engineering best practices within collaborative research projects and contribute to the department's teaching activities
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members as needed

Your Qualifications::

  • Completed degree in computer science, software engineering, data engineering, medical informatics, systems administration, or a comparable training with work experience in a technical field
  • Gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse (Niveaustufe C1 für eine der beiden Sprachen bzw. B2 oder die Bereitschaft diese zu erlernen bis min. Niveau B2 für die jeweils andere Sprache)
  • Solid Linux system administration skills and expertise in data management, including database technologies, parallel computing and scalable architectures
  • Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with modern software engineering and DevOps practices (containerisation, CI/CD) in HPC or cloud environments
  • A collaborative, solution-oriented mindset with strong ownership and the ability to take responsibility for complex technical systems
  • Interest in and/or prior experience with neuroimaging data modalities, clinical research workflows, biomedical data standards, and open science data principles
  • Close collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of neuroscientists, clinicians, and computer scientists
