The University Clinic for Internal Medicine 2—Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Nephrology, and Rheumatology—is advertising a position as a university assistant with a doctorate/PhD, limited to 6 years, for the following job description:

Job Duties::

  • Establishment of an independent research profile
  • (Independent) management of research projects within a team, including planning and methodological implementation, documentation, analysis and interpretation of experimental approaches
  • Translational research at the interface between clinical and experimental concepts and methods
  • Support in laboratory organization and maintenance
  • Participation in infrastructural and organizational tasks
  • Maintenance and expansion of research networks within and outside JKU
  • Collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of research data
  • Independent acquisition of third-party funding and research grants
  • Processing of stool, urine, saliva, blood and tissue samples
  • Supervision of Bachelor's and Master's students

Your Qualifications::

  • Completed PhD degree in medicine, biology, natural sciences or a related field
  • Experience with molecular biology methods (ELISA, Western blot, fluorescence in situ hybridization, DNA and RNA extraction, immunohistochemistry), bioinformatics analyses
  • Experience in the development and establishment of genetically modified cell models using CRISPR/Cas-based genome editing as well as functional analysis of the resulting phenotypes
  • Extensive experiencein the field of bioinformatics, as well as in infectious disease and inflammation research
  • Experience working in laboratories with biosafety level 2 (BSL-2), including microbiological methods and infection experiments with human pathogenic organisms
  • Experience in establishing human biobanks
  • Experience in preparing and implementing ethics applications and writing research grant proposals
  • Excellent knowledge of microscopy and practical experience in performing imaging and quantitative analyses
  • Very good English and German language skills (German C1 and English B2)
  • Ability to work in a team, reliability and loyalty
  • Willingness to further develop and implement new methods
