The University Clinic for Internal Medicine 3 – Hematology and Internal Oncology is looking for a dedicated data scientist with international research experience to support the establishment of the planned Comprehensive Cancer Center Linz (CCCL) and to participate in the implementation of research projects in the field of tumor medicine. The tasks include the management of large amounts of clinical and preclinical data, their harmonization and transfer for intra- and extramural collaborations, the processing and evaluation of high-dimensional (including spatial multiplex single-cell) multi-omics data from personalized molecular profiling, machine learning-supported algorithm development for image analysis from molecular biology and clinical imaging, co-development of AI-supported FHIR/mCODE-based clinical decision support systems for next-generation tumor boards, Proximity/propensity analyses for the progressive establishment of “digital twin” databases, as well as the creation and expansion of integrative network structures between clinics, translational research, and biobanking.

Job Duties::

  • Independent supervision of research projects, including planning, methodological implementation, documentation, analysis, and interpretation of experimental approaches in the field of tumor medicine
  • Development of an independent research profile
  • Development of new interdisciplinary research fields in collaborative projects with partners in the field of tumor research
  • Data management (including support for various data capture tools, e.g., REDCap)
  • Compilation, interpretation, and presentation of collected data and key figures (including documentation, statistical analysis, visualization, evaluation planning, etc.)
  • Supporting laboratory organization and maintenance
  • Developing new methods
  • Participating in teaching
  • Supervising doctoral students in the field of research and their research projects, as well as supervising bachelor's and master's theses
  • Participating in infrastructural and organizational tasks of the planned CCCL

Your Qualifications::

  • The successful candidate must hold a completed Doctoral/Ph.D. degree in natural sciences, medicine, computer science, or related subjects
  • Interest in independent research or the development of methods and procedures
  • High level of motivation in the field of research and in establishing an independent research profile
  • Experience in the analysis and enrichment of large data sets in the medical field (such as computer vision, NLP, or deep learning skills)
  • Qualification in clean code and modern software engineering skills, Python, and/or R skills
  • High degree of commitment, flexibility, and resilience
  • Independent, structured way of working and ability to work in a team
  • Very good German and English skills (German level C1, English level B2)
