The advertised position at Johannes Kepler University Linz is part of a larger project investigating dropout in teacher education and in the teaching profession. Six dissertations are intended to help reduce the research gap on dropout and provide practical implications for teacher education and the teaching profession.

As part of this initiative, the University College of Education Styria, the Private University College of Teacher Education Augustinum, the Universities of Graz and Klagenfurt, and the Johannes Kepler University Linz are conducting cooperative doctoral programs on the topic of “Should I stay or should I go: Conditions and processes of dropout in different phases of study and paths into the teaching profession.” In this context, a total of six doctoral positions are being opened, which will involve working on various dissertations on the topic of dropout in teaching for a period of three years.

The advertised position at Johannes Kepler University Linz will research dropout in the everyday working life of teachers.

Job Duties::

  • Independent scientific work with the aim of completing a dissertation in accordance with the approved doctoral program “Should I stay or Should I go?”
  • Support for project lead, project coordination/management
  • Collaboration with an inter-institutional research consortium, as well as with colleagues in the department at the university
  • Collecting and evaluation of data in the project team
  • Presentation and publication of research findings at (inter)national conferences
  • Giving courses
  • Participation in the organization of events and public relations work

Your Qualifications::

  • The successful candidate must hold a completed diploma/master's degree (teaching, educational science, psychology, or a comparable social science or humanities subject such as sociology) at a university
  • Knowledge of applying empirical educational and social research methods with a focus on quantitative methods (e.g., handling intensive longitudinal data)
  • Keen interest in scientific work and publishing
  • Independent, conscientious and precise scientific work
  • Ability to communicate effectively in German and English in a research context
  • Good knowledge of German and English (level B2)
  • Experience in research projects, data analysis, and project management (desired)
  • Experience in university teaching (desired)
  • Meaningful letter of motivation
